John D. Stephens, Inc., a second-generation company, is one of the largest and most respected utility contractors in the Southeastern United States.

In 1962, John D. Stephens, or John D. as he is commonly known, purchased a backhoe, and began a septic tank and sewer installation company in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Within a few years, he expanded into local municipal projects, added additional equipment, and developed the grass roots for what is now John D. Stephens, Incorporated.

In the beginning, John D. did most of the work himself, but as the business grew, so did the need for additional people. A good many of the people who started with John D. are still employed with the company, which is a tribute to the John D. and his family, who are still actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the company.

While John D. started in the Atlanta area, he quickly extended the project areas to Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Florida and the Carolinas.

Today John D. Stephens, Inc. is a second generation company operated by Mitch Stephens. John D. Stephens has a proud history of having little turn over with employees, with numerous employees having 20 plus years of service with John D. Stephens, Inc.
